The Hong Kong Train Missed a Stop

Shaw Brothers & Golden Harvest cranked out movies fast. Thank goodness for the interest because

that's how Bruce Lee blossomed into Superstardom. He remarked, "My movies did more (got recognition)

then my books and classes combined."

The Hong Kong Movie Train featured Ron Van Cleef as The Black Dragon. They never discovered

the guy many thought was ready for prime time. His name was Victor Moore.  He was not friendly.

Most martial artists were not. The stoic demeanor was needed to project in matches.

Victor by co--incident met Bruce Lee and participated in Bruce's demo. in the U.S.. Victor was a

showman, and technician and deserved to be in the movies. His whirlwind moves and scene-stealing

antics made him one to watch at amateur tournaments. The Hong Kong Movie Train missed a

stop not discovering Shorei Stylist Victor Moore. Perhaps it did not see enough character...?

                                                       Who was That Masked Man?

Who was that masked man? Our super heroes often appear as masked crusaders.

Zorro's Fighting Legion (1939) was applauded as best of the movie serials.. Both Zorro and his arch

enemy Don Del Oro were disguised. It was a serial so viewers had to wait until the final chapter

delivered once a week to find out anyone's true identity. Viewers waded through 12 chapters or 12 weeks.

Lone Ranger-Producers had him appear in other characters un-masked. But our beloved hero

Clayton Moore fell in love with his Lone Ranger character and refused to un-mask in public.

Batman-This is easy to digest. Bruce Wayne appears as his clean-cut appearing self with

Robin prior to suiting-up and sliding down the pole they borrowed from the local Fire Department.

Who was that masked man? No sexism allowed. Wonder Woman, She's beautiful. Just a torso twirl and

head band. Viola! Producers don't allow a disguise to hide that allure.

                                                                 Lunch with Chuck

We all admire Chuck Norris. A lunchtime conversation might revolve

around his legendary feats, charisma, and pop culture dominance in martial arts.

There is Walker Texas Ranger the enduring TV Series. There are his gravity-defying kicks.

The discussion would shift to his action-packed films. Way of the Dragon where he faces off

with Bruce Lee still un-surpassed in martial arts cinema. He has a moral code.

He has been featured in Black Belt Magazine numerous times. But hiring fellow martial artist

and family for his productions makes him even greater as a person. Many think thats why the late Bob

Wall considered Chuck his  Sensie.

Watch him grow: In one his first productions  titled "The Yellow Face Tiger'" he portrayed a high pitch

voiced antagonist (bad guy). Then there is Lone Wolf  McQuaid characterization. "I work alone," he

says. But in reality, he's not alone, millions of us admirers are just on the other side of the camera.

                                      Buffing the Surface

The Buffer Bros (Michael and Bruce) made a name for themselves pitching various sport matches.

Long drawn-out vocal intro of participants into the

ring is now a staple. UFC is nearly parallel to

NFL in televised viewership. In part due to the

vocal energy of the announcers.

Bruce Lee shocked many by taking off his shirt

and displaying incredible skill in the "buff" for

his movies.

Our new E-book features a  buff guy on the

cover. He's hot so we made him look cool.  We "buffed" the surface.

                                              Hi Champ

The phrase "Hi Champ" carries a unique courtesy in many gyms. It's a greeting steeped in respect

and camaraderie. It's more than a hello--it reflects the athletic spirit. Whether you are seasoned or

kicking the bag for the first time, being called "Champ" is a nod to the effort sport demands.

Gyms come in various sizes and shapes. Newbies may not be acknowledged until a time frame

allows them to prove their sincerity. A few places have their stars. Title holders, privileged members

Newbies can only admire. Martial Arts Studio has visual aids. The belts represent achievements.

Boxers have no slices of achievement in comparison.

The thud of gloves and the bark of  Sensie's commands draw onlookers from the world over.

In boxing gyms, hearing "Hi Champ" is more common.

In martial arts dojo you hear "Oss!, Hello Sensie"

The Far East is loved and hated. There's always more to discover. We discovered Imperial Jade

artifacts wrapped in Gold once. Jade was a treasure reserved for kings. Not too shabby from

barefoot sensie, greeting "Hi Champ."

                       Tying the Knot

His name is Ty. He soaked up routines like a sponge. In other words, he was smart.

So he was bigger than he realized, because he gave demonstrations. This means his

parents could measure progress and the many onlookers would be challenged to pursue the

art or some other. Ty did not have to slay Dragons or combat an army. Ty had full parental support.

He never would have got to his extra-curricular activities and McDonald's stop without their

support. It's both! A big difference in small ways. Now that's Tying the knot!
